Powers Principal Rob Portman participated in a presentation on the role of the General Counsel in Medical Societies at the June 10, 2019 Annual Meeting of the American Society of Medical Association Counsel (ASMAC).
The presentation focused on issues such as conflict of interest, privilege, confidentiality, competence, and numerous other thorny issues facing both in-house and external counsel for national and state medical societies. ASMAC is an association of attorneys who are employed by or otherwise represent such societies.
Rob is a Principal in the Powers Healthcare practice, where he advises nonprofit medical societies, healthcare associations, disease-related charities, certification bodies, and other nonprofit organizations. He also develops legal structure and agreements for national clinical data and public health registries sponsored by medical societies and other nonprofit organizations.
