Powers Law is thrilled to announce that Principal, Peggy Tighe, will receive the 2024 Lifetime Achievement Award presented by Women in Government Relations (WGR). This prestigious honor is awarded annually to a senior-level advocacy professional whose career achievements and contributions have made a significant impact on the field of government relations.

Peggy Tighe is a seasoned healthcare policy expert known for her ability to translate complex healthcare issues into actionable strategies. Her influence extends across Congress and various agencies, where she advocates for policies that support both providers and patients. At Powers, Peggy engages in policy development and strategy, direct lobbying, coalition building, grassroots campaigns, and media relations to help health systems, provider organizations, and consumer groups to address their policy challenges.

Her distinguished career includes notable tenures at the American Medical Association where she served as the AMA’s principal lobbyist and the Health Insurance Association of America. Peggy has played a crucial role in shaping significant legislation, such as the HOPE Act for HIV-positive organ transplantation, the 21st Century Cures Act for medical rehabilitation research, the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, extensions of the Independence at Home demonstration, and the Improving Seniors’ Timely Access to Care Act. Her efforts have also secured substantial funding for hospital groups and influenced Senate votes, highlighting her profound impact on healthcare policy and advocacy.

Peggy’s dedication to the advocacy field extends beyond her professional accomplishments. She has been a member of WGR for over 30 years, contributing her leadership as a Board member from 1999 to 2004 and co-chairing the Health Care Task Force.  As President of WGR from 2004 to 2006, Peggy implemented an inclusive membership system that doubled the organization’s membership and introduced a student membership category to engage and mentor future leaders.
