On August 1, 2024, the Senate Labor, Health and Human Services (LHHS), Education and Related Agencies, Appropriations Subcommittee released and passed out of committee the FY 2025 appropriations bill and related report language. This comes after the House had released and passed out of its committee the House version of the FY 2025 bill and report language on July 10.

Across the two bills, the Powers legislative team was able to help secure funding and/or report language that:

  • Supports and includes funding for the continuation of a remote blood pressure monitoring program to identify preeclampsia in high-risk women and communities.
  • Continues to support oral health training through the Health Resources and Service Administration (HRSA) Title VII funding and highlights the Dental Faculty Loan Repayment program, specifically requesting there be a focus on pediatric dentists.
  • Increases funding by HRSA for the national postgraduate Nurse Practitioner Residency and Fellowship Training Program.
  • Requires that $2.5 million be appropriated by HRSA to modernize essential equipment in the largest skilled nursing and rehabilitation facility providing care of the elderly in Washington State.
  • Calls on CMS to issue guidance that provides states clear direction on how to implement home-based behavioral health care services.
  • Reinstates funding under the Department of Defense’s Peer Reviewed Medical Research Program for orthotic and prosthetic outcomes research to continue funding provided for this same purpose since 2014 under the Congressionally Directed Medical Research Program (CDMRP).
  • Directs that $550,000 be appropriated by the U.S. Department of Education to fund an environmental and health education program to educate children and adolescents in Connecticut about the negative effects of climate change and how they can participate in addressing it.
