As we wrap up October, Powers reflects on National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM) and its vital importance in recognizing the invaluable contributions that workers with disabilities make to America’s workforce. This year’s theme, “Access to Good Jobs for All,” has inspired Powers to help create a new annual Fellowship in honor of the life and legacy of Bobby Silverstein, JD, a former Partner at Powers. This Fellowship will help highlight our collective commitment to expanding the number and quality of employment opportunities for people with disabilities.
NDEAM annually celebrates the contributions of the nation’s disabled workers and showcases supportive, inclusive policies and practices that benefit employees and employers alike. To participate in NDEAM in a meaningful way, Powers is partnering with the American Association of People with Disabilities (AAPD) and the Center for the Study and Advancement of Disability Policy (CSAPD) to establish an annual paid Fellowship in conjunction with AAPD’s successful summer internship program. The Fellowship is intended for an individual with a disability who will focus on advancing disability law and policy, emulating Bobby Silverstein’s life’s work.
Powers Managing Partner, Peter W. Thomas, JD, stated, “Powers joins all employers in encouraging the hiring and promotion of diverse candidates, especially candidates with disabilities. Helping found the Bobby Silverstein Fellowship is one way our firm is promoting disability employment while recognizing the unique contributions our former partner and friend, Bobby Silverstein, made to advancing disability law and policy.”
As we conclude this month of awareness, let us carry these values into our daily practices and continue advocating for the rights and opportunities of workers with disabilities throughout the year.
