At Powers, our greatest strength is our people. We’re excited to launch this new series to spotlight the talented individuals who bring expertise, passion, and personality to everything we do.
First up is Fernando Montoya. Fernando is an Associate in the Powers healthcare practice group.
Q: Education
A: Illinois State University, American University Washington College of Law (2021)
Q: What inspired you to become a lawyer and join Powers Law?
A: Reading To Kill a Mockingbird and learning about Abraham Lincoln as a kid really inspired me.
Q:What area of law do you specialize in, and what drew you to that field?
A: I probably contribute to the litigation practice the most. I love breaking down arguments, researching caselaw and learning a new area of law, and brainstorming the most effective counterarguments. It’s a great feeling when it all comes together in the end.
Q: What is your favorite part of your job?
A: We get to make a living by continuously learning and advocating for others. Whether that’s a new area of the law, the health care field, or helping one of the Education or Tribal practice groups. It’s a wonderful privilege!
Q: What advice would you give to someone just starting out in their legal career?
A: You weren’t hired because you’ll know how to do everything, but because the firm trusts in your abilities and potential to learn how to do those things when they come up.
Q: What does your ideal Saturday look like?
A: Make some coffee, go to a boxing lesson, read for a few hours, ice cream, and then spend time with friends and loved ones.
Q:What’s one thing people might be surprised to learn about you?
A: I love bluebooking and I’ve never made paella!
Q:What is your favorite DC restaurant or activity?
A: Lapis
Stay tuned as we share more stories about the incredible people who make Powers what it is.
