Powers is pleased to welcome the firm’s 2020 summer associates, Filzah Iqbal and Olivia O’Hea. Filzah works with the firm’s healthcare group, and Olivia works with the firm’s education group.
Filzah is a student at the University of Virginia School of Law, where she is on the managing board of the Virginia Journal of Law and Technology. She is also a member of the Virginia Law First-Generation Professionals and a recipient of the Squire Patton Boggs Public Policy Fellowship.
She has interned with the US Department of Health and Human Services’ Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology, where she assisted with developing regulations under the 21st Century Cures Act pertaining to patient matching, information blocking, and exchange standards.
Prior to law school, Filzah earned a B.A. in chemistry from Gettysburg College in 2015 and an M.S. in health informatics from the University of Chicago in 2017. While earning her Master’s, she worked at the University of Chicago Medicine’s Office of Graduate Medical Education and interned with the American Medical Association’s Council of Ethical and Judicial Affairs.
Olivia is a student at Georgetown University Law Center, where she is a Managing Editor for the Georgetown Journal of Legal Ethics, a research assistant for an upcoming book on impeachment and statutory interpretation, and a student delegate for Georgetown’s Student Bar Association.
This year, Olivia won Best Advocate in the 50th Annual Leahy Moot Court Competition, and she clerked for the House Judiciary Committee with the Oversight team.
Prior to law school, Olivia worked at Pew Research Center in Washington, DC. She graduated from Drake University in 2016 with a double major in Law, Politics, and Society and Public Relations.
The Powers summer associate program exposes law students to the firm’s practices throughout a 10-week period. The program provides summer associates with challenging work, practical training and the opportunity to work and socialize with many of our lawyers, professionals and staff. This year, the summer associate program is taking place in a virtual capacity while the firm continues remote operations due to COVID-19.
