Powers Principal Paul Moorehead will moderate a panel at the D.C. Indian Law Conference on Friday, October 25th.
The panel, “Tribal Self Determination: Decades of Success and Current Efforts to Broaden the Indian Self Determination and Education Assistance Act,” will reflect on President Nixon’s “Special Message to Congress on Indian Affairs” (1970) and the “Indian Self-Determination and Education Assistance Act of 1975.” The panel will discuss the Indian Self-Determination Policy (ISD) and discuss how the policy has grown and changed since its inception. The panel will also look forward and discuss current and future efforts to strengthen and expand ISD policy.
Paul will be joined by Hon. John L. Berrey, Chairman of the Quapaw Tribe of Oklahoma, Rhonda Harjo, former Deputy Chief Counsel for the U.S. Senate Committee on Indian Affairs, and Hon. James Floyd, Principal Chief for the Muscogee (Creek) Nation of Oklahoma.
