Powers Principal Paul Moorehead has been selected to Indian Country Magazine’s Hot List of Indian Law Practitioners for 2017.
Indian Country Magazine publishes its Hot List special section annually. Hot List focuses on noteworthy films and actors; native studies programs; native businesses; Indian law practitioners; native music; rising native youth; and more from across Indian Country.
The Hot List article discusses Paul’s early involvement with Native American matters, including his work with the National Congress of American Indians after graduating from Temple University.
Paul also discusses his role with former U. S. Senator Ben Nighthorse Campbell when he became chairman of the Senate Committee on Indian Affairs in 1996. Paul was appointed chief counsel, and later became staff director, remaining in the role until 2005.
Paul is a principal in Powers Pyles Sutter & Verville’s Indian Tribal Governments practice alongside Brian Gunn and Kevin Wadzinski. Paul’s practice is dedicated exclusively to federal Indian law and policy.
He focuses on initiatives, policies and programs that affect Indian tribal governments and Native American people, including appropriations, commercial transactions, energy and natural resources development, trust reform, environmental protection, gaming, healthcare and telemedicine, housing and infrastructure development, tribal self-governance, taxation, and Indian land and water rights settlements.
