Powers education attorneys Nick Michiels and Dan Brozovic will present at the New Jersey Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (NJASFAA) Fall Conference this week.
Their session will cover audits and reviews of both institutional Title IV compliance, and administration of federal Higher Education Emergency Relief Funds (“HEERF”) awarded to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Nick and Dan will detail the process behind U.S. Department of Education reviews and compliance audits (including HEERF audits), and provide best practices to position institutions for success when facing a review or audit. The discussion will address how to prepare for and navigate the process, what happens when a review team is on campus, and common findings and areas of focus for the Department and auditors. While the goal is preventing findings, the session will also cover best practices for responding to findings and options to contest final findings.
Nick and Dan’s presentation will take place at 2:00 pm on Thursday November 18th.
