WASHINGTON, DC—Powers is pleased to announce that Bruce M. Gans, MD, has joined the firm’s Government Relations and Health Care Practice as Senior Health Policy Advisor.
At Powers, Dr. Gans will consult on healthcare legislative and regulatory matters, including issues involving rehabilitation, post-acute care, and disability policy. With his extensive experience on both the medical and policy sides of health care and rehabilitation, Gans will offer clients of the government relations and health care teams a more clinical perspective on policy issues. He will also pursue new projects and client engagements where his medical and policy background will make him an invaluable asset.
Dr. Gans has spent his career working in the field of rehabilitation medicine, both as a medical doctor and as a policy specialist and advocate. He recently retired from his position as Executive Vice President and Chief Medical Officer for the Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation and as the National Medical Director for Rehabilitation for Kessler’s parent company, Select Medical. He is currently a Professor of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School and serves as the Chief Policy Officer for the American Medical Rehabilitation Providers Association (AMRPA), a Powers client.
Throughout his career, Dr. Gans has conducted research and published extensively on the topic of rehabilitation medicine, focusing primarily on pediatric trauma rehabilitation, quantitative assessment of motor performance, rehabilitation engineering, rehabilitation health services delivery, and primary care for individuals with disabilities.
“I have worked with Dr. Gans for years and we are very excited that he is joining the firm’s health care and legislative teams,” stated Peter W. Thomas, Managing Partner of Powers. “Bruce has a wealth of experience in clinical medicine, the practical implications of policy on health care operations, the promise of new technologies to assist people with illnesses, injuries, and disabilities, the mechanics of post-acute care and physician payment systems, and measurement of quality outcomes. As Powers continues to grow, his breadth of expertise will assist our clients in navigating the changing healthcare landscape in America.”
